Dr. Savu received her medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia (USA), in 1992 and then completed her residency in general surgery from the Medical College of New York (USA) in 1999. In addition she completed 2 surgical fellowships; one as NIH Research Fellowship at Cornell Medical College in New York and a second one in minimally invasive and robotic surgery at the European Institute of Telesurgery at the University of Louis Pasteur in Strasbourg (France).

Before joining Beijing United Family Hospital, Dr. Savu served as Chief of General Surgery at the South Texas VA Healthcare System in the USA. She was also Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, Texas (USA).

Dr. Savu has over 20 years of clinical experience and performs all types of general surgery. She has expertise in anti-reflux surgery, surgical treatment of stomach, colon, and hernias. She is also an expert in minimally invasive and robotic surgery and foregut and bariatric surgery. She performs colonoscopy, upper endoscopy and is proficient in the POEM procedure for achalasia.

Dr. Savu is published in prominent medical journals, including Annals of Surgery, Surgical Endoscopy, and Obesity Surgery. She is board-certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. She also serves on several committees for the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) as well as a reviewer for several surgical journals.
