Gang ZHU

Prof. Zhu completed his Bachelor’s Degree from Shanghai Medical University in 1990 and obtained his Master’s Degree in Surgery at Peking Union Medical College (PUMC) in 1999. He completed his doctorate and a post-doctoral clinical research fellowship at King’s College London, UK.

Prof. Zhu started his career in the Beijing Hospital of the Ministry of Health and spent a year in the Cancer Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. With over 30 years of experience in Urology, Prof. Zhu is highly specialized in the diagnosis and treatment of urological cancers, especially cancers of the prostate, kidneys, and bladder. His expertise also includes minimally invasive surgeries such as robotic-assisted laparoscopic surgery, single-port laparoscopic surgery, and endoscopic surgery. The minimally invasive surgeries that Prof. Zhu performs include radical prostatectomy, radical cystectomy, nephrectomy, partial nephrectomy, adrenalectomy, and high ligation of the spermatic vein. He also performs endoscopic surgeries include transurethral enucleation of the prostate, excision of bladder tumors, and ureteroscopic lithotripsy for the kidneys or ureteral calculi. Prof. Zhu is a pioneer for laparoscopic and da Vinci robotic-assisted surgery in China.

In addition to his work in clinical urology, Prof. Zhu is also involved in various international and national academic societies. He is the Vice-Chairman of the China Anti-Cancer Association Genitourinary Oncology Committee (CACA-GU), the team leader of the Minimally Invasive Group, and the deputy group leader of the Prostate Cancer Group of CACA-GU. He also serves as the panel member of the Chinese Guidelines Office and the Vice-President of International Relation Committee of the Chinese Urological Association’s (CUA). Prof. Zhu is also a panel member of Chinese, Asian, and European urological cancer guideline committees and has contributed to the completion of prostate cancer, kidney cancer, and bladder cancer guidelines. He is also the editorial board member of multiple national and international urology journals, including the Chinese Journal of Urology and the British Journal of Urology International. Prof. Zhu is also the honoree of “2020 Outstanding Contributor for the field of Chinese Genitourinary Oncology” and “2021 CACA-GU MDT Excellence Tutor”.

Prof. Zhu also led the Urological Tumor MDT Team of the Beijing United Family Hospital, which won the “Top 100 Urological Tumor Hospital in China” award in 2021.

Prof. Zhu is a professor at Urology at Peking University, doctoral supervisor at Peking Union Medical College and the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, and a visiting professor at the Dresden University of Technology. He has published over 100 peer-reviewed papers in both national and international medical journals (including 15 SCI papers) and contributed to the publications of 21 books.
