Biography

Dr. Deborah Ma was born in the United States, and has been living in Beijing for more than 10 years. Dr. Ma graduated from Beijing University of Chinese Medicine (BUCM) in 2007 and received her Master’s Degree in Oriental Medicine in California in 2008. Dr. Ma later obtained her Ph.D. from BUCM in 2011. She became TCM pediatric attending physician in 2015 and is also a licensed acupuncturist in California and the US national board (NCCAOM).

Before joining the Beijing United Family Hospital, Dr. Ma worked at an international hospital as a TCM physician. Before this, she founded a TCM clinic in San Diego. Dr. Ma also worked on a cruise line sailing between the Mediterranean and Caribbean for 2 years, where she treated patients from over 60 countries, with most of them experiencing TCM for the first time.

Dr. Ma has over 10 years of clinical experience. She specializes in sports injury/pain management, especially acute and chronic musculoskeletal dysfunctions and neurological problems, such as facial paralysis, sciatica pain, and neuropathy. With the combination of herbal medicine and acupuncture, Dr. Ma also treats insomnia, digestive disorder, mental health conditions, women’s health issues, and pediatric conditions.

Other than acupuncture and herbal medicine, Dr. Ma is also an expert in Fu’s subcutaneous needling (SFN), a technique combining Chinese meridian theory and myofascial release theory to achieve effective pain relief.
