Biography

Dr. Chen Zan received his medical degree and master’s degree from Harbin Medical University. Upon graduating Dr. Chen went on to complete his PhD in Neurosurgery at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University. In 2005 he continued his neurosurgery training at Queen Mary Hospital, affiliated with the University of Hong Kong (Hong Kong). Dr. Chen went on to study microsurgery treatment techniques for spinal conditions at the International Neuroscience Institute (Germany) in 2008 and at the Cleveland Clinic (U.S.) in 2011. Dr. Chen also got the training of spinal endoscopic techniques in Phoenix Desert Back Pain Institute, and Bordeaux Ancien Interne des Hôpitaux in 2012.

Dr. Chen worked at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Harbin University for 11 years. While there he completed his hospitalist training, during which he completed rotations in Neurology, General Surgery, Orthopedics, Radiology and Pathology, and held the position of Attending Physician. From 2003 until joining BJU in 2013, Dr. Chen served as Attending Physician at Xuanwu Hospital,
affiliated with Capital Medical University. He completes over 240 surgeries each year including microsurgeries for intra-spinal canal tumors, cervical spondylosis, lumbar disk herniation, and spinal trauma.

Dr. Chen has published more than 20 articles in Chinese medical journals. He currently serves as an expert committee member and secretary of the Spinal Neurosurgery group within the Neurosurgery branch of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association.
