Philanthropy Event for Rural Teachers
On August 21, 2011, Beijing United Family Hospital and Clinics provided free physicals, first aid training, and a psychology talk to 100 participants of the “Rural Schoolteacher Project” sponsored by the Cui Yongyuan Foundation.
The nursing and receptionist teams were the MVPs of the physical checkups. They handled blood samples, assisting physicians, height/weight checks, medical history & symptoms, vision/hearing tests, EKG, lab samples, etc. Their teamwork and efficiency were both crucial and admirable.
Chen Lixin and Li Chaoqin are BJU veterans. Chen Lixin is the Pediatric Inpatient Head Nurse and provided nursing care until the very end even while feeling ill herself. Li Chaoqin came directly after completing her night shift. Additionally, Chen Lixin’s husband and daughter as well as Li Chaoqin’s son were volunteers for the event.
Radiology volunteers handled chest x-rays for the 100 rural teachers. To ensure that films were correctly matched with their owners, doctors and volunteers repeatedly checked participant information and conducted themselves with utmost professionalism and intense attention to detail.
Laboratory volunteers processed all blood and urine samples after the conclusion of the event, providing crucial and efficient analyses.
UFH Vice President of Medical Affairs Dr. David Rutstein; BJU CMO Dr. Randy Jernejcic; Family Medicine physicians Dr. Jia Ling, Dr. Liang Lijun, Dr. Richard Saint Cyr, Dr. Wang Xiaohong; Internal Medicine physician Dr. Ji Kaiyu; hospitalists Dr. Katherine Bi and Dr. Wu Ni assumed responsibility for all general physical checkups. Mrs. Jernejcic, Amy Lin and Patricia Wei were translators for the three foreign doctors. After the event, all doctors wrote summaries of the checkup results, racing to complete them by the closing ceremonies of the “Rural Schoolteacher Project”. Hospitalist Dr. Yue Qin assisted in compiling the summaries.
ENT physician Dr. Lin Zhonghui and Dr. Liu Ming; OB/GYN physician Dr. Li Jianjun; and dermatologist Dr. Na Renhua provided specialist consultations to participants. Dr. Liu Ming arrived early to prepare her consultation space. During the consultations, Dr. Lin Zhonghui’s professional attitude received very positive feedback from participants. For one teacher, Dr. Na Renhua personally went out to purchase the medication for which she had written a script. Dr. Li Jianjun had so many patients, he worked for four hours straight, making him the last one to finish his consultations.

贵羚: (translated) Dr. Randy has a love that crosses national borders. (I wish our country’s medical personnel would seize opportunities to improve their medical ethics, return to the 80s. Though patient numbers have gone up and medical personnel have gone down, medical skills back then weren’t what they are today, but doctors at the time still felt strong sense of responsibility.) Beautiful wife, angelically cute little princess…blessed family. We wish you all the best.
欧阳兰兰: Physical checkups and first aid training are very important. | 贵羚(@D18239067-87): These checkups were very important for the rural teachers. Because you live in a lower level of society, your living conditions are much harsher. And your healthcare isn’t very comprehensive. And knowledge of basic first aid is very helpful to you, your students, and your family members. Many thanks to BJU’s medical and administrative staff for their support!
BJU volunteers numbered 120 to help provide the free physical checkups, first aid training and team building training. Congratulations to all BJU volunteers who helped make the "Rural Schoolteacher Project" philanthropy event so successful!
