Beijing, September 19, 2011 – Beijing United Family Hospital and Clinics (BJU), China’s first and largest foreign-invested provider of full-service, premium-quality healthcare, was re-accredited today by Joint Commission International (JCI). This re-accreditation marks the third time the hospital has received the healthcare industry’s highest recognition for quality, safety and management practices. The certificate of accreditation was presented at a ceremony in BJU’s new hospital building by President of The Joint Commission, Dr. Mark R. Chassin, and President and CEO of JCI, Paula Wilson. JCI is the international arm of The Joint Commission (a U.S.-based organization formerly known as Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, or JCAHO). The aim of JCI is to continuously improve the safety and quality of care in international hospitals. To this end, JCI comprises worldwide experts in medicine, nursing, healthcare administration and management, and public policies, all of whom can formally audit and accredit global healthcare facilities, setting standards for “medical quality” and “hospital service quality” that are the highest presently achievable and recognized by all reputable bodies in the international healthcare industry.

Upon receiving accreditation, CEO and General Manager of BJU Sylvia Pan said, “We are thrilled that our core daily commitment to provide China’s safest and highest-quality healthcare services for every patient has once again been recognized by global experts assessing the best practices in healthcare today. We are proud that our most aggressive investments have been in medical staff, safe practices and premium-quality care because these all bring inestimable value to the health of people in Beijing.”

United Family Healthcare (UFH) Vice President of Medical Affairs and former U.S. Deputy Surgeon General Dr. David Rutstein was on hand to receive the certificate of accreditation and said, “We are glad to learn that our five facilities in Beijing have been accredited. Our facilities in Shanghai and Guangzhou are currently being reviewed and we are hopeful they will be similarly recognized, soon making UFH China’s only healthcare network to receive JCI accreditation across three cities.”

As Tianjin United Family Hospital, Beijing United Family Rehabilitation Hospital and other world-class facilities are soon to open, UFH will continue to follow the highest standards in safe and effective medical practices. This pursuit has allowed the network to attain the incomparable achievements in China that were recognized by JCI today.
